The Boston Massacre Part Three.....
So it appears as though...the Sox are going to be swept by the Yankees. Today...after losing a 5 hour 15 inning marathon, the Sox send the big hype Clay Buhholtz to face the Yankee's Big Waistband. As bad as it is...and it is bad....it always could be worse.
In 2006 when the Sox were swept in an epic 5 game series in Fenway Park ( I was there) there were
A. Much less games left in the season
B. The sweep also left them 4 back in the wild card chase, this time around at worse a sweep would leave them only 1 game back of the Rangers, and still a half game ahead of the Rays
C. The Sox were never going to win the American League East anyways....The Yankees spent 1/2 a billion dollars in the off-season at Saks 5th avenue....while Theo and the Sox only spent 12 million @ the Dollar Store....
D. The Yankees needed to win this series more than the Sox...after all...they still trail the season series 8-2
You like
...... Well how do you like them apples.......

I will agree with points A and B - but not quite C and D.
Had Daisuke stayed healthy and pitched as well as he did last year and had they not suffered some of the injuries that they suffered - the Red Sox could have won the AL East.
And there's still 50+ games left in the season and so nothing's set in stone either way.
And as far as D goes - I don't agree with this at all.
Why did the Yankees need to win this series more because they were losing the season series?
The Yankees came into this series up by 4.5 games.
They could have left this series 0-12 against the Red Sox this season and still leading the division by a half a game.
No matter what happened - the Red Sox were going to leave Yankee stadium in second place.
But leaving Yankee stadium only a half game out and still in first place in the Wild Card by a couple of games is vastly different from leaving Yankee stadium 6.5 games back, in third place in the AL East and in second place to the Texas Rangers for the AL Wild Card.
For those reasons - the Red Sox needed to win this series MUCH more than the Yankees.
Do you really think the Yankees would cry if they won the AL East by 1.5 games at the end of the season but lost the season series 15 games to 3?
Would Red Sox fans rather dominate the season series and watch the Rangers win the Wild Card and the Yanks win the East?
The only way the season series matters is if both the Red Sox AND the Yankees finish with identical records and we all know that probably won't happen.

First off..thanks for reading and commenting....of course I agree and disagree....I think the Sox had no real chance to compete for the al east this year....waayy to many what if's to start the season....papi/lowell/drew...pitching...dice/smotlz/buchy/penny.....the difference on how the sox and yanks spent money says it all....even the rays upgraded thier team from last year....
