So Long Manny.....

Manny to LA Dodgers; Jason Bay to Red SoxIn a deadline deal that was eerily similar to the trading of Nomar Garciaparra, the Red Sox annouced after the 4pm EST trade deadline that indeed Manny Rameriz has been traded.  Though Red Sox Nation has known this day would eventually come, it still comes as a shock to the system.

Just how badly the Sox got rooked in this deal shows you thier disdain for his recent behavior.  It seemed Manny was waging a war or words against, well thin air it .  Manny's recent comments seemed like a pre-planned drama, and the timing made little to no sense, except that it was near the trading deadline.  Maybe the fear of Boston picking up his option scared Manny to death, that and his chance for another big payday would be delayed.  Maybe Scott Boras motivated Manny's behavior, after all if the Sox picked up Manny's option, there would be no finacial windfall for Scott(Satan) Boras.

Whatever the case, Manny's gone and he has left a wake of destruction that has cost the Red Sox seven million dollars and two young players.  In return they get a guy that has basically the same numbers as Manny, but no where near the same pedigree.  The hardest part of this deal for most of Red Sox Nation is watching Manny take his show on the road.  I have no doubt he will shut up and play well for Joe Torre and the L.A. Dodgers.  I am also sure we will have a great deal of heart burn watching baseball tonight highlights that include Manny being Manny.

The end result of this day is not yet known to us, only the baseball gods will determine ultimately how this story will be written.  For me todays events end the long strange trip that was Manny Rameriz.  That trip included two world championships and whole lot of homers, hits and r.b.i's.  There were ups and down to this marriage that was Manny Rameriz, however like with Pedro and Nomar before him, I will choose to remember the good times that were Manny being Manny.
