The Boys in Green....
The good news about last nights rain delayed game was, the other contending team in the A.L. East, the Rays and Yankees had already lost. Other than that last night's game was kinda-off a bummer. The Cardinals were able to come into Fenway and push around the Red Sox to the tune of five runs on eleven hits. Tim Wakefield was okay, he allowed three earned runs on seven hits and three walks, but he was done in by two Cardinal long balls, and two Red Sox errors. Wakefield managed to go seven innings, throwing 114 pitches on the night, I'm sure he was hoping the Boston offense would bail him, but instead they left him stranded with another loss.
The Sox offense was quiet last night until they got some late tack on runs in the 7th and 9th innings. The 7th inning was especially painful though, they had base loaded and no outs, and were able to come away with only one run due to Manny Rameriz grounding into a double play. The Sox did get a rally going in the 9th, but they were done in by Jacoby Ellsbury and J.D. Drew standing at home plate in the 9th inning looking at strike three called. I know this, all the J.D. Drew comparisions to Big Papi should stop now, Big Papi would not stand at the plate lifelessly and watch a good pitch cross the plate with two strikes in him.
Mixed bag for ole Julio Luggo, on the one hand he did hit his first homerun in 70 games, and he did have a sac fly. One the other hand he had two errors to bring his total to a ******** 16 for the year. One of those errors lead to an unearned run. That run proved to be the diffference as the Sox lost by one run 5-4.
