Who Killed Tangerine...........
Wowzer's what a game last night. Although I will admit that I thought with the Sox going back east that meant a little earlier ending, and a little more sleep. However that was not the case, as the Sox and O's slugged it out for 13 innings. The game might still be going, if the Orioles had decided not to give it away in the top of the 13th with three mind-blowing errors. The first error by the catcher, a dropped pop up from the bat of Big Papi, caused annoucer Jim Palmer, to harken back to the Mothers Day mircle of 2007 by the Red Sox. However when Papi tapped softly back to Kevin Millar, I thought no such come back would happen tonight. Then, however, other Orioles got in the act, Melvin Mora air mailed a sure out off the bat of birthday boy Manny, and that turned a sure out into a man in scoring postion. Then Mike Lowell made sure that error was not in vain, by dropping a single into left and scoring Manny all the way from second, with Manny hustling all the way home. A few batters later and the Sox had Mike Lowell and Kevin Youkilis double steal to second and third, thats right, Lowell and Youk. Another air-mailed throw by O's shortstop Freddie Bynum, and a nail-bittter had turned into a 5-2 lead for the Sox, with Papelbon doing what he does best, a 1-2-3 13th inning.
The bullpen, which has been complete crap this year, threw a seven inning gem, allowing no O's runners to cross home plate. Josh Beckett was dominant, but wasteful with his pitches last night. He went six innings, threw 118 pitches, struck out a ******** ten batters, and allowed four hits, three walks, and two earned runs. From there it was the Okajima, Delcarmen, Lopez, Hansen, Timlin and Papelbon show. It seemed for awhile that Terry Francona was conceding the game when he seemed to be staying away from Papelbon for so long. Every Sox reliever looked good, with the exception of Mike Timlin, who loaded the base before finally inducing a warning track fly ball to get out of his jam. Manny Delcarmen also looked good, and he also pitched out of a two out two on jam in the 9th. In a 162 game season you will need skill to win games and overcome adversity, however some luck and another teams generosity never hurts either.
