Back to the Future Part Two

Erie similarity for Sox

So it really did feel like October last night, playoff type atmosphere, wind chill in the mid 30's, and of course the Indians doing what they do best, choking away game that was seemingly in the bag for them.  For the second time in this short season, the Red Sox stage a rally in the nineth via a two run homer.  This time it was Manny being Manny that provided the theatrics.

For the most part, this game was a drag, Jon Lester was his usual lights out self for a few innings, then he did his usual meltdown, to the tune of four hits and four runs over the course of one inning.  Then Lester was pulled with one out in the 5th, with bases loaded.  Francona brought in Julian Taverez, which to me signaled the end of the game, however Taverez was brilliant, striking out the next two batters and going 2.2 innings without allowing a run.  In fact the bullpen was lights out again, going four and two thirds innings without allowing a run.  The Red Sox bullpen has now gone ten and two thirds of an inning and allowed only one run, not bad.

For the Sox they finish up tonight thier series in Cleveland with Tim Wakefield on the mound.  He will face Paul Byrd, who is 0-2 this season.  This will also be the Sox only visit to the mistake by the lake this year.  The rest of the games versus Cleveland will be in the Indians house o horrors, Fenway Park.
