Farewell Mr. Mullet.......
So it looks like the Randy Johnson experiment in New York is finally over. What a shame, I kinda liked Johnson and his robust e.r.a. just south of five runs per game. For the most part Johnson was like most pitchers in a long line of high profile pitchers that have failed for the Yankees. Yankees fans will argue that Johnson did well against the Sox, check the box score Yankee fans, he usually gave up a touchdown against the Sox, he did however benefit greatly from run support.
Johnson was brought to the Yankees to put them over the top, and deliver them a World Series. He was supposed to be the ace, and help Mike Mussina anchor the Yankee staff. Instead he was just an average pitcher, whose starts looked like a roller coster ride. Some nights he was Randy of old, going 7 or 8 innings, giving up a run or two. Most nights though, he was not, and he would be knocked around to tune of five or six runs in a couple innings of work. Johnson was supposed to be a saviour for the Yankees, the same way that Curt Schilling was for the Red Sox. This much is for sure, Randy Johnson was no Curt Schilling in his time with the Yankees. Johnson failed to even deliver the Yanks a playoff win. All things considered Johnson was not a complete bust with the Yankees, but was he worth the 34 million they paid him for two seasons of mediocre work?
I will say this, and I have said it before, I am very disappointed that in two seasons, we never saw Johnson versus Schilling. For whatever reason, it never happened, it was almost like Francona and Torre did not want thier aces pitching that epic of a game during the regular season. It would have been a great match-up, two MVP's from the same World Series dueling it out. Oh well, maybe if the Sox and the D-backs make the fall classic this year, we will get to see it.

I'm not sure what Yankee fans you're talking to, but the everyone I know is ecstatic that he's gone.

As a Yankee fan I am happy he is gone. He had some many highs and lows it made me sick. Why pay 16 million when you could throw in one of the young arms and have just as much confidence. Seriously I have more confidence in the young guys who have proven nothing yet. Another plus is that our average age of the team goes down by like 10 years. Maybe not some much but we are definetly getting younger! I am excited!
